John Poveromo

John Poveromo is a close friend and comedian that performs in the New Jersey/New York area. In one of the most surreal conversations I've ever had with a client, John explained to me "Could you just decide how everything looks? I don't really like to decide that sort of stuff. Can I just trust you with that stuff?" He also expressed a strong desire for a simple multimedia blogging platform that he could update frequently and with little hassle. Tumblr sprung to mind almost instantly.

The design of this site is a lot different than my usual stuff. When I receive little design direction, I like to challenge myself by designing in a style I’m not really familiar with. I’d been paying a lot of attention to the work of Wim Crouwel, and decided to try something a lot simpler than I’m used to. I’d also been reading up on Khoi Vin and his ideas on the grid, and decided this would be a good time to try my hand at it.

I used a few special tools this time around, including sIFR, PHP Includes, Fancybox, and a stylized Tumblr blog to name a few. I think this was also the last time I’ll be using Avenir for a while. I’m starting to see too much of it lately.
