One Win Choice
In the summer of 2007, I was tasked with creating the album artwork for New Jersey melodic hardcore group, One Win Choice, for their debut full-length CD on Jumpstart Records entitled, "Never Suspend Disbelief."
The lyric content of the songs deals exclusively with topics of political, social, and economic significance. The message of the album as a whole was to emphasize the ability, and furthermore, responsibility of an individual to change the world around them for the better in one of the aforementioned realms.
Unfortunately, topics such as these risk becoming impersonal, idealistic, and somewhat irrelevant to the listener. This is not due to apathy or disinterest, but an inability to relate to the subject matter. There is a disconnect between the ideology and its relevance to the listener’s everyday life. In order to remedy the somewhat abstract nature of the subject, I approached the subject from a narrative point of view.
Out of the twelve page booklet accompanying the release, I devoted six to this narrative, detailing the journey of a hopeful, male protagonist. As for the panels containing lyrics, the band belongs to a genre that prides itself upon its ability to entertain a live audience. Therefore, the five panels containing lyrics were complemented with an image of one of the five band members performing live.
