Sustainable Party
Sustainable Party is an e-commerce site that sells compostable plates, cups, and other food related stuff. Sustainable Party was also the weirdest project I've ever worked on.
At like 5:30 on a Wednesday, my boss, Nathan at C+L, comes back from a meeting and says, "JOE. GREAT NEWS. YOU'LL BE MAKING A DIORAMA TYPE THING, AND THEN PUT THE PRODUCTS FOR THE STORE IN THE DIORAMA AND USE THAT FOR THE PRODUCT SHOTS." So, at first, I got really excited. Then I realized site launch was Friday and that I'd never built a diorama before.
I spent about 90 dollars on supplies including fake animals, bags of dried moss, watercolor paper, popsicle sticks, wire, exacto knives, cutting pads, and tape. Building the entire thing from start to finish was probably an eight hour affair, with shooting, retouching, and production taking another fourteen hours.
I'd love to try this again in a situation where I could take my time and have fun with it instead of being so stressed. I'd also like to actually make more of the stuff and consider the space a bit more beforehand. Since everything was so hastily made/forced together, things kept shifting and changing the composition.
I also did an illustration for the footer of the site with a lot of fun little elements that depicted the spirit of the store. There's another one somewhere with some kind of acorn picnic. I forget where that is.
